March Newsletter

Goodbye February with its crazy weather.  Thanks for all of your concern and understanding with the windy weather and tree tumbling!  Let’s hope the snow will subside to some lovely spring days now that March is here.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT–Recently we have both been taking professional development course on a variety of topics.  One common thread is the value of learning through play.  We have been reevaluating the program and allowing more time for learning games and facilitating learning by creating the right atmosphere.

Our function is to structure the learning material in such a way that it captures and holds the interest and attention of each child, making learning a pleasurable and lasting experience.  The child is encouraged to participate in a variety of “hands on” learning activities which lend themselves to interaction and exploration, which then will  lead to the acquisition of knowledge.

BOOTS–As it is often wet and rainy in the spring, please dress your child appropriately for outdoor play as we are required by licensing to have go outside each day.  Please label boots with your child’s name and send indoor shoes if you wish.

PICTURES– You should be receiving proofs this week.  Group photos will be displayed in the windows by the dismissal doors.  Please have photo orders in by Friday, March 16th.  Orders should be returned to you after spring break (April)

SPRING BREAK–Lyndhurst Preschool will follow the spring break schedule of the Burnaby school district and will be closed from March 19th and reopen on Tuesday, April 3rd.

YEAR END DATES–The last day of classes will be Thursday, June 21st.  This will also be Graduation Day for all fours going to kindergarten.  Lyndhurst Preschool will have our Year End Picnic on Friday, June 22nd.  More information will be forth coming closer to the dates.

REGISTRATION– We have space in our September programs.  Please send anyone interested to our website or ask them to give us a call at the preschool for more information.  604 421 6113

After removing the tree and needing to bring in a crane to assist in doing so,  the adjusters/engineers have given us the ok to reopen the preschool this Thursday.   Will will assess the pick up procedure on Thursday morning to see if we will need to dismiss from the play yard.

See you then.

On Saturday night this tree on the east side of the building (where we dismiss the children) fell on the preschool.   The tree was partially removed as of Sunday afternoon however Strata felt that the structure of the building and the roof should be inspected before allowing us to operate our preschool.

Insurance companies and engineers will be called tomorrow to have a look at the building and council members will inform us of the condition of the building as soon as possible.

Please check the website before Thursday for the latest information.
